Since the mid nineteenth century the art of decorating the Cuban cigar boxes through creative printing techniques has been common with Cuban cigar manufacturers. In those early years certain forward looking cigar entrepreneurs were able to achieve increasingly beautiful details on their cigar boxes. One of the most successful being Francisco Menéndez, the Spaniard who created La Belinda cigars brand in 1882.

The Habanos Denomination of Origin certification is applied to all cigars in which 100 per cent of the tobacco used in the cigar has been grown in Cuba.
