Brand Profile
|
The Corporación Habanos S.A. first launched the Cuban Cuaba cigar on the market at the prestigious Claridges Hotel, London, on November 19, 1996. This distinctive Cuban figurado shaped cigar brand takes its name from the early Cuban settlers, an old Taino indian word for a bush known for its combustible qualities and still in use in some country areas of Cuba for lighting fires.
These fine Cuban cigars, which stand out by their pleasant aroma and enticing dark gray color are pointed at both ends - called figurados cigars. They are offered in traditional boxes of 25 cigars.
Cuaba also marked a resurgence of emphasis on figurado cigars by Habanos. Figurado cigars had largely gone out of fashion in the 1930s.
At the time of writing there are six Cuaba vitolas: the Cuaba Exclusivos, the Cuaba Generosos, the Cuaba Tradicionales, the Cuaba Distinguido, Cuaba Salamones and the Cuaba Divinos.
Both the Cuaba Distinguido cigar (rated 93, and the 2nd highest rated cigar in the world) and the Cuaba Salamones cigar (rated 91) were selected to Cigar Aficionado's Top 50 Cigars list for 2007, affirming that it is rated among the very best handmade cigars in the world.
About Habanos Cigars
Cuaba cigars are a brand within the range of Habanos cigars. The Habanos Denomination of Origin certification is applied to all cigars in which 100 per cent of the tobacco used in the cigar has been grown in Cuba. Likewise, it is an essential requirement that all cigars manufactured in Cuba are subjected to numerous quality control checks, both during the agricultural and curing process, as well as during all stages of manufacturing in the cigar factory.
The same rigorous procedures are applied to the selection of the appropriate leaves, quality control, of draw, of the true flavor of each of the Cuban cigar brand names and, finally, the quality of the cigar's appearance and presentation. The quality of the Habanos Cuban cigar is the result of the mystical union of four elements: soil, varieties of Cuban black tobacco, climate and the wisdom of Cuba's agricultural workers and cigar makers.
Numerous attempts to achieve the standards of authentic Cuban cigars in other areas of the world with seeds of Cuban origin have failed to attain the unequalled quality of genuine Cuban cigars. These same elements: the harmonious combination of the sun, the average temperature, atmospheric humidity, soil and subsoil composition are those which make the quality of the Cuban cigar, both in terms of agriculture and manufacturing, unique to Cuba. Therefore, the Habanos Cuban cigar trademark printed on the boxes of brand name Cuban cigars is the guarantee that these cigars are backed by Habanos Denomination of Origin Protection. This is a guarantee of quality and origin that is awarded to only the finest Cuban cigars manufactured in Cuba under the strictest quality control measures, with the best leaves selected from Cuba's tobacco regions. |

| My good friend brought a few of these over to my house and we quickly smoked them and we both hated them. Then, I put the rest in my humidor for several months and tried them again and WOW! What a great cigar. Buy them now and smoke them in a few years and you'll love them. |

| So far, I see that I'm the only one to review these. There's got to be more out these who have these?! Trust me, if you don't have these yet, you must absolutely stock some of these. These are the epitomal EL's to buy - they have been given rave reviews by Cigar Aficionado and James Suckling. They are amazing. Besides the intial box that I reviewed before, I've ended up buying 2 more boxes from Mike, to age and enjoy over time. My initial box is starting to get some really nice plume on some of the cigars - these are dark, oily beauties. They are, in my opinion, the must-have EL cigars, from any year lately, that a cigar fan needs to have stored and ready in his/her humidor for those "special occasions". Phenomenal smokes.

| I'm a huge fan of these. I bought a box of these EL's from Mike and AbsoluteCigars in July of 2009. They were great right out of the box. After letting them settle a bit in my humidor, they've become extremely consistent on the burn and quality. A meaty smoke, with lots of dark chocolate, nutmeg, and nuts. Perfect! A very nice and flavourful cigar, while being well balanced, and having that just perfect amount of smoke, and a great burn and draw. I'm definitely in need of getting more of these to age and stock up on - while they are pricer, and only in boxes of 10, they are a necessity. A solid 92. |
