Brand Profile
|
Vicente and Jose Lamadrid Piedra created the Jose Piedra cuban cigar brand as a commercial brand in 1880. Their cigar factory was at Calle Maximo Gomez No. 5 in Remedios, Cuba, in the tobacco-growing area of Vuelta Arriba, in what is now Sancti Spiritus Province. After the Cuban Revolution, the Jose Piedra cigar brand was launched very successfully as a product popular among demanding Cuban cigar smokers.
This Jose Piedra Cuban cigar brand is known as one of Habanos cigars value cigars, with a very reasonable price. It is packaged in simple cardboard cigar boxes, and cellophane-wrapped bunches. Jose Piedra cigars are available in a medium sizes, with a pleasant aroma, medium strength, hearty and robust, without being harsh or overwhelming. Well balanced with typical Cuban cigar flavours, and underlying notes of spice.
About Habanos Cigars
Jose Piedra cigars are a brand within the range of Habanos cigars. The Habanos Denomination of Origin certification is applied to all cigars in which 100 per cent of the tobacco used in the cigar has been grown in Cuba. Likewise, it is an essential requirement that all cigars manufactured in Cuba are subjected to numerous quality control checks, both during the agricultural and curing process, as well as during all stages of manufacturing in the cigar factory.
The same rigorous procedures are applied to the selection of the appropriate leaves, quality control, of draw, of the true flavor of each of the Cuban cigar brand names and, finally, the quality of the cigar's appearance and presentation. The quality of the Habanos Cuban cigar is the result of the mystical union of four elements: soil, varieties of Cuban black tobacco, climate and the wisdom of Cuba's agricultural workers and cigar makers.
Numerous attempts to achieve the standards of authentic Cuban cigars in other areas of the world with seeds of Cuban origin have failed to attain the unequalled quality of genuine Cuban cigars. These same elements: the harmonious combination of the sun, the average temperature, atmospheric humidity, soil and subsoil composition are those which make the quality of the Cuban cigar, both in terms of agriculture and manufacturing, unique to Cuba. Therefore, the Habanos Cuban cigar trademark printed on the boxes of brand name Cuban cigars is the guarantee that these cigars are backed by Habanos Denomination of Origin Protection. This is a guarantee of quality and origin that is awarded to only the finest Cuban cigars manufactured in Cuba under the strictest quality control measures, with the best leaves selected from Cuba's tobacco regions. |

This was my second Cuban Cigar experience. Since then I have smoked 5 more of these guys. I found this cigar to be quite earthy and not overpowering. However, It's appaerance doesn't do this economical cigar justice. Very good with a cold beer.

At this price you can't expect the best smoke you'd ever have with these, but for the dollars you pay, you get a great value. I recommend even for an everyday smoke.

Unbelievable for the price. Gone through the whole bundle. Not the best looking wrapper, but if you are looking for a great everyday Cuban smoke - this should be your choice.

Hint of chocolate before lighting up. Little spicy aftertaste. Excellent value for a $2 stick. Would give 3 star rating except for packaging. Came in a bundle, shinkwrapped. Caused some deformity of cigars and wrappers were inconsistant.

I found some gems in a magshop - full maduro wrapper. This took away much of the expected harsh, bitter character - it was tasty, although undifferentiated. A jewel for the cigar beardie, when in the maduro form.

Not bad at all considering the price. Burns slow and draws well. If you need a casual smoke, this should be your first choice. With this or the Cremas, you can't go wrong.

This is the second type of Jose Piedra I've tried so far, the other being the Cremas. Although the Brevas is a great price for a cigar of it's size, I enjoyed the Cremas more. This one is a slow starter, but it does get better around the half way point, with some sweet chocolatey notes coming through. An even burn with good ash, although I did have to relight it a few times. Try it for yourself! At this price you can't really lose.

Having smoked cigars for the past decade, this is my third cuban cigar. I will attest this cigar tasted almost identical to the Montecristo #4, but at half the price. This cigar burns slow and even with a perfect draw. I would definately recommend this to any cigar connoisseur.

For a short filler cigar...not bad. Not something I would buy in quantity...but not a waste of time either. Smooth and flavorful. I enjoyed this gifted cigar.
