Brand Profile

Introduced in 1901, nearly a century after the death of Simon Bolivar, the powerful flavour of Bolivar Cuban cigars is almost as widely know as it's namesake, Simon Bolivar (1783-1830), the celebrated Venezuelan warrior who liberated what is today Venezuela, Columbia, Peru and Bolivia.

The Bolivar cigar brand was developed by the Jose Rocha Cigar Company and manufactured at the El Crepusculo cigar factory, but was later acquired by Menendez, Garcia y Cia cigar manufacturers, and is now produced at the Partagas cigar factory.

In 1901, the Rocha company in Havana, Cuba commemorated Bolivar by naming a new brand of Havana cigars after him, and featuring his portrait on the label and cigar box. At one time the brand included the smallest Havana cigar - the Delgado, measuring 1 7/8 by 20 ring gauge.

Today it is one of the most sought after Cuban cigar brands.  Bolivar cigars are highly crafted Cuban cigars.  These fine Havana cigars are known to be strong, with earthy characteristics, spice notes with a touch of sweet caramel. Bolivar cigars are well balanced and wonderfully rich.

About Habanos Cigars

Bolivar is a brand within the range of Habanos cigars. The Habanos Denomination of Origin certification is applied to all cigars in which 100 per cent of the tobacco used in the cigar has been grown in Cuba. Likewise, it is an essential requirement that all cigars manufactured in Cuba are subjected to numerous quality control checks, both during the agricultural and curing process, as well as during all stages of manufacturing in the cigar factory.

The same rigorous procedures are applied to the selection of the appropriate leaves, quality control, of draw, of the true flavor of each of the Cuban cigar brand names and, finally, the quality of the cigar's appearance and presentation. The quality of the Habanos Cuban cigar is the result of the mystical union of four elements: soil, varieties of Cuban black tobacco, climate and the wisdom of Cuba's agricultural workers and cigar makers.

Numerous attempts to achieve the standards of authentic Cuban cigars in other areas of the world with seeds of Cuban origin have failed to attain the unequalled quality of genuine Cuban cigars. These same elements: the harmonious combination of the sun, the average temperature, atmospheric humidity, soil and subsoil composition are those which make the quality of the Cuban cigar, both in terms of agriculture and manufacturing, unique to Cuba. Therefore, the Habanos Cuban cigar trademark printed on the boxes of brand name Cuban cigars is the guarantee that these cigars are backed by Habanos Denomination of Origin Protection. This is a guarantee of quality and origin that is awarded to only the finest Cuban cigars manufactured in Cuba under the strictest quality control measures, with the best leaves selected from Cuba's tobacco regions.

Couldn't wait to lite one up after dinner the day I received them. Poured myself a Crown Royal and sat down for what I thought was going to be a pleasant evening. Turns out the first one out of the gate had a plug about midway. I strained my cheeks through the plug and managed to finish it regardless. Great cigar, I've had them before, and I'm sure(I hope) the others will be fine, just shitty luck the first one you grab has a plug.

"One of the best" January 24, 2010
This is what I think of when I think of Cuban Cigars! Dark, thick, and just great flavor. Not as strong as some will tell you. These Cuban cigars can be hit or miss on quality but when they are good they are among the best. Taste of leather, pepper, with a creamy spin to it. The Bolivar Belicoso Fino is a great after dinner cigar, accompanied by a ruby port or red wine. 9 out of 10 when they are good.

"By Far The Best" January 24, 2010
There are by far the best cigar to come out of Cuba. I love the Bolivar Belicoso Finos flavor profile, consistancy of the roll and the depth of aroma can not be supassed. The one exception can be the occassional plugged cigar, where...who knows, maybe the roller had a bad day, but this is rare. Other than that though they are great all the way down to your burnt fingers! Full bodied with no pepper...Just great. I can't smoke anything else now.

"Very good .. but" January 24, 2010
Like most Cuban cigars I've tried ... they have to be aged ! Fresh out of the box , not a good smoke. But ... let it age 6 months or so ( year is better ) and you will have a GREAT smoke !

This is a great Cuban cigar, with a great draw and flavour. The Bolivar Belicosos Finos rates right up there with the very Havanas.

"Smooth and Spicy" October 10, 2009
This was a pleasant surprise, for having read much about the strong & full flavour of this stick, it was amazingly smooth. Spicy complexity with a real mix of flavours, but very well balanced. Straight onto the favourites list this one!

A perfectly constructed cigar with a delicious pre-light aroma. Starts of smooth and spicy and finishes with a BANG! Definitely not for the faint of heart. Has an excellent draw and good amounts of smoke. Would recommend to anyone with a passion for strong spicy cigars.

"Favorite" July 15, 2009
This is my favorite Cuban cigar. The Bolivar Belicosos Finos is the best all-around cigar that I've smoked. I bought a box almost 2 years ago and left most of them in my humidor to age. What a difference a little time makes! I enjoyed them then, and I love them now. Goes very well with a little Wild Turkey Rare Breed.

Not for the faint of heart! This cigar has great construction and nice white ash. The definition of full-bodied, this cigar delivers smoothly and packs a wallop. Spicy and complex, this cigar is interesting and worth the expense for those who prize full bodied cigars; a bit much for me personally.

Can't go wrong with this one if you like a little spice with your smoke. The torpedo design enhances the overall smoking experience. Elegant cigar for those special occasions. Great looking smooth oily wrapper. A good bang for your buck.

"Absolutely Beautiful!!!" November 29, 2004
Had one of these for the first time the other day. Next time I'm ordering a whole box! Absolutely beautiful cigar. A silky smooth wrapper, perfectly constructed. Very complex and full flavours with a nice strong finish. Nice spice notes throughout, this is like having a full meal. My knuckles are still singed from this one! It had a little bit of an uneven burn at times, but in the pure ecstacy of it all, it was forgiven. Well worth the cost!!!
