Brand Profile

When it comes to making a great cigar, there is no substitute for time and experience.  Indeed a family business, with generations passing on knowledge, history, and expertise, will create a product that, in a small way, contains that almost literally legacy.  Into its fourth generation, Gran Habano continues such a tradition, as a family enterprise, has stayed close to its humble beginnings.

Tobacco farmer and cigar maker, Guillermo Rico, believes in patience and in building his business slowly and steadily through managed exposure of his cigars to the marketplace. Known for his meticulous attention to detail and a deep reliance on quality control in traditional tabaquero manner. With his background, such attention to detail is to be expected. The Rico family history in the tobacco business dates to 1920, when Guillermo Rico’s grandfather began growing a deep and dark tobacco. His father then took over in 1946, and Guillermo recalls following him around the fields as a child while his mother rolled cigars at home. This family legacy continues now in Gran Habano with a strong sense of their tradition embedded into every cigar handmade in Danlí, Honduras, where in 1998 the factory was established and became the birthplace the premium cigar brands we now know and of the quintessential Gran Habano.

In 2003 the latest lineup of Gran Habano handmade cigars was introduced to resounding success by the father and son team of Guillermo and George Rico. These long-filler cigars have become the core of the company brand with 3 distinct blends: the Connecticut #1, a mild but rich cigar with a Connecticut shade wrapper; the Habano #3, a medium-bodied cigar in Habano wrapper; and our most beloved blend, the Corojo #5, a peppery full-bodied cigar in Corojo wrapper. Consistency has always been a staple of these expert blends, which continue to be best selling cigars.

The legacy of making cigars at Gran Habano continues to be a family affair. Established in Miami, Florida, Guillermo and George Rico, strive for quality in every leaf and cigar in production. Honesty and passion is what compels them to make great cigars, married with a sense of originality, this is the signature of Gran Habano cigars
