Brand Profile

A terrific blend of 100% Nicaraguan long leaves wrapped in a luxurious Ecuador Sumatra wrapper, the Oliva Serie V Melanio cigar delivers a medium to fuill-bodied complex smoke with a satisfyingly smooth and creamy finish.  Named after Gilberto Olivas grandfather, Melanio is massively rated and won Cigar Aficionados number one rated cigar in the world designation in 2014.  Oliva Serie V Melanio cigars are available for international delivery, as are all our handrolled premium cigars.

The Oliva Cigar Company makes Over 15 million handmade cigars a year, and they trace their storied history back to the tobacco fields of Cuba, where Melanio Oliva got his start growing premium cigar tobacco in the 1800s, where Melanio Oliva first grew tobacco in the Pinar Del Rio region in 1886. The growing operations had to be suspended during the period where he he fought in the Cuban War of Independence. Upon his return from war, Melanio resumed his growing operations, and in the early 1920’s his son Hipolito Oliva took over control of the growing operations.

Hipolito managed the Oliva fields for multiple decades, then as Cuba came under communist control, the landscape of the local tobacco business changed.  Hipolito’s son Gilberto moved from growing to brokering of tobacco. The in the early 1960s overly controlled industry arrived at a breaking point for many, and Gilberto began to travel from country to country including Honduras, Mexico, Panama, and as far as the Philippines in search of growing lands with the distinctive Cuban taste.  Gilberto Oliva eventually found his sought after fertile land in Nicaragua.

Oliva then specialized in manufacturing quality-yet-affordable cigars, then evolved into making more sophisticated cigars with the game-changing release of the Oliva Serie V cigar in 2007.  This flagship line soon earned high ratings from the cigars press including Cigar Aficionado magazine and the Cigar Insider newsletter. In the brand's inaugural vertical brand tasting, in a September 2007 Cigar Insider, it had two standout scores, 94 points for the Torpedo and 92 for the Double Robusto.

Today the Oliva cigar family are Nicaragua's second largest grower of Cuban-seed tobacco, and the Oliva Cigars Company is the proud manufacturer of many highly praised cigar blends that regularily place in the Top 25 Cigars in the World list from Cigar Aficionado Magazine.  This dedication to high quality has won Oliva Cigars a huge following around the world.
